More Maintenance before Moving

June 26, 2016 (By Angela)

Wow! This last week at Green Acres is really flying by fast, especially our final weekend. Our four-day week ahead is filled to the brim, so there are a few maintenance chores Jim and I are trying to knock out before he goes to work on Monday.

Yesterday, Jim went through the 5th wheel and tightened all of the screws to cabinet doors. We’ve learned that if one cabinet door seems to sag lower than the one beside it, there may be a lose screw, whether visible to the eye or not. Ever since we’ve owned the camper, the cabinet doors in the bedroom next to the closet have been difficult to shut. Many months back, I finally realized that the issue is that at least one of the screws in the top hinge of the right side door had been set slightly too close to the inner side. It’s not much off but enough to cause issues over time. Jim is midway through his repair project. He filled the holes with wood glue and let it set overnight. He will put the screws in the proper location later today to allow the cabinets to close as they should.

Today, we are giving the RV a bath. Since it is so hot, we washed the western and southern sides this morning before it got full sun, and this evening, we will wash the eastern and northern sides after the sun is heading down. We’re also cleaning the tire covers, which had not been removed in almost year. They were taken off about 10 days ago for our first attempt at getting new tires put on (you can read about that here), and with all of the moving of the camper during our last two weeks in the campground, it does not make sense to put them back on until parked elsewhere for a bit. They were NASTY, so they are getting a bath, too. Jim and I worked on two this morning, and we’ll do the other two this evening.

We had planned to set up our new Tire Minder System today, but then it dawned on us that with us taking the 5th Wheel to Mr. Shelby on Tuesday to have the bearings re-packed, the brakes cleaned and checked, and a few other annual maintenance jobs done for which the rig needs to be in the shop, there is no sense in taking a chance on one of the special stem caps getting lost, so that may have to wait until just before we head out Friday morning.

It is going to be a crazy, crazy time between now and Friday morning, but we’re getting there!
